Dutchman stabbed 25 times, robbed in Egypt
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has adjusted its travel advisories on Egypt following the death of a 53-year-old Dutchman there.
The man died on Old Year’s day, when he got stabbed 25 times during a robbery in Egypt.
This has been confirmed by Foreign Affairs . Initial reports were that the man was vacationing in Hurghada, a popular diving destination at the Red Sea, but as was pointed out to NLTimes, the man had lived there for a while. The robbers made off with money, jewelry and a laptop. Egypt media has said that an autopsy showed that the victims was butchered. No one has been arrested yet.
Foreign Affairs updated its travel advisory on Eqypt, warning travelers to be extra careful when visiting Hurghada. The city saw two other violent, robbery related deaths earlier this week. A couple from Switzerland who were reported missing for two weeks, were found buried last week. Two Egyptian men have been arrested.
Located on Egypt's eastern coast, the resort city of Hurghada is a prime tourist destination and has mostly been spared the turmoil and violence that has gripped the country following the uprising that toppled long-time strongman Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
