Cat deaths not fireworks related
The two cats in Amersfoort that were feared killed by coldblooded firework vandals, may have died less horrific deaths.
Luna the cat flyer. Turns out her death was less horrific.Examinations of the carcasses of Luna and Kattie show different, it was reported on Monday.
Initial fears had been that Luna was critically injured when someone pushed a firecracker into her anal cavity and fired it off. Her injuries were that bad that she had to be euthanized. Kattie was found on the roadside, bleeding for her mouth. Fears were that she had been dumped in a ditch and then pummeled with fireworks.
While there were no indications that the cases were connected, it now turns out that neither cat showed fireworks related burns and wounds. Luna was examined by a veterinarian at the University of Utrecht. “It is unlikely that someone pushed fireworks into Luna. It is more likely that she got injured while accidently walking past fireworks. And it could also have been a car accident,” a police spokesman said.
And Mirjam van Olmen, Kattie’s owner, denied the story of her cat being thrown in a ditch and firebombed; Kattie had no such injuries. Mirjam said the person who filed the police report in question was just an angry neighbor who was going around claiming she wasn’t treating the animal well.
The hoaxes surrounding Luna’s and Kattie’s deaths had caused countrywide disgust. A group of concerned animal lovers had promised a reward for the tip that leads to finding the people responsible for the abuse.
