Rare Rietveld Piece found in New York

In preparation for an auction at Sotheby's in New York, a special chair by Gerrit Rietveld surfaced. It is a prototype of the so-called 'low chair' that was made by the furniture designer from Utrecht in 1950. Until now it was assumed that this prototype was lost.Only the design drawings of the chair, which are part of the Rietveld Archives in Rotterdam, were known. The chair comes from a former employee of Rietveld and will be auctioned next week.
