Online Elderly Doubles in 8 years
The share of 65 to 75-year-old Dutch that use the internet has more than doubled since 2005, according to the Central Statistics Agency (CBS).Internet usage in this age group within the EU is hardly anywhere as high as in the Netherlands. Together with Luxembourg, Sweden, and Denmark, Netherlands is in the lead when in comes to internet usage by the elderly.
In 2013 eight out of ten 65 to 75-year-olds indicated to have used the internet, which is twice as many as in 2005. More than half (55 percent) of that group uses the internet on a daily basis, which is four times as much as in 2005, when only 15 percent did. The group of 12 to 65-year-olds who surf the internet on a daily basis still scores higher with 87 percent.
