Dutch senators to oppose new province proposal

The Dutch government’s plan to create a new province by uniting the provinces of Flevoland, Noord-Holland and Utrecht could face opposition from a majority of lawmakers. Many senators are ready to support the Christian Democrats’ motion that is designed to postpone the merger plan. The vote on the motion is scheduled for next Tuesday. According to government, reducing number of provinces will help save money.
