"Chaos" in Groningen as Weather Hits
People flooded into Groningen Centraal station this afternoon following the announcement by the NS and Arriva that all trains north of the Amsterdam-Zwolle line would be cancelled today. Hundreds of people reportedly lined up outdoors to try and jam their way into the buses still in operation.
As Sieme Gerrijts braved the weather, he posted to his Twitter account that it was "chaos" at the station.
Others filled the building trying to sort out how they would get home today, with reports from the area suggesting that nobody has a handle on how to move all of the passengers there.
"It is so crowded inside that you cannot see the floor," read one post on Dichtbij.nl.
Both NS and Arriva trains running in the northern part of the country have been cancelled since 14:00 due to the inclement weather. The University of Groningen also shut down at the same time for the same reason.
The north of the Netherlands is under a Code Red weather alert until 18:00.
