A woman from Hürth in Germany admitted to being the mother of the abandoned child who was found in Roermond in June, confirmed the Public Prosecutor in Keulen to the NOS.

Last month it was announced that the baby, a boy, had a sister who was also abandoned. She was found along a highway in Germany in 2011. A DNA test showed they have the same mother.

The German Public Prosecution will not say much more about the woman. It is not clear whether she reported to the police or if she was traced. He motives are still unknown.

A DNA test should reveal whether she truly is the mother of the two foundlings. The results are expected early next week.

The boy was found by a passer-by in a public park in Roermond, a few months ago. He was placed with a foster family.
