New Attempt Salvage Cutter
A third attempt to salvage the cutter Z75, de Zeldenrust, which ran aground at the dam in the sea at Petten, will be done on Tuesday.
Last Thursday the cutter Zeldenrust hit the stone breakwater after the net got tangled up in the propeller and the ship became unmanageable. The collision with the dam made holes in the hull. The ship made water and ran aground.
Dutch expert salvage company Mammoet was hired to salvage the unfortunate Belgian cutter from Zeebrugge.
Since Saturday, Mammoet is doing repairs to avoid oil leaking into the water. The have also installed screens which, when the cutter will finally be afloat, will prevent oil to leak into the water during the trip of the docks of the company in Schiedam.
Everyday since Saturday attempts to pull the boat afloat have been done at high tide, but so far to no avail. The rescue mission on Monday, however, tipped the boat to the other side and this is seen as the reason that the attempt on Tuesday will be successful.
The cutter attracts a lot of people and the local catering is not unhappy with the attention which the ship brings to their village. But it is to be expected that these ‘tourists’ will not be there anymore after Tuesday.
What finally will happen to the Zeldenrust has to be seen at the docks in Schiedam.
