U.S. Weighs In on Dutch/Russia Dispute

The United States urged the Russian authorities to thoroughly investigate the recent attack on the Netherlands diplomat in Moscow. On Oct. 16, the diplomat was beaten in his apartment and the assailants left "a heart shape and LGBT" abbreviation after their visit. According to the U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, Russia should conduct a "thorough investigation into the disgraceful incident and bring to justice those responsible."Further, Psaki said the U.S. is concerned about the presence of LGBT symbols on the scene of the attack. Russia should provide an atmosphere of tolerance and guarantee security for its citizens and foreign visitors, she said. cover image by Anton Zelenov, Wikimedia
