Sint arrival Utrecht moved

Sinterklaas will not be arriving in his familiar spot in Utrecht this year. The City expects the collapsed embankment at Weerd sluice will not be ready in time for the arrival on Sunday 17 November. Where the Saint will dock, is still unclear. The historic quay wall of the walled Weerd partly collapsed Tuesday. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, although it is assumed it has to do with the rain of recent times. The City also monitors the houses nearby. Sint-intocht-boot

The work is more difficult than expected because there are still old pieces of quay wall in the water. Utrecht also examines the subsidence risk in a number of other vulnerable pieces of embankment along the canals.
