The demand for regional newspapers and regional radio and TV programs continues to decline, reports the Media Commission. The decline in demand causes a decrease in advertising revenue, making cuts necessary. This has implications for the pluralism and independence of the media, according to the Commissioner.

Wikipedia.org Regional magazines now often bring top regional news together to save costs. When no more savings can be gained out of that, cuts will need to be made in the local and regional news, states the Commissioner. The cuts will come at the expense of the number of editions. Since 2006 an average of four editions disappeared per year. In 1987 there were 19 providers of regional newspapers, now there are only five.
