Teeven: put prisoners to work
State Secretary of Security and Justice, Teeven, wants prisoners to manufacture goods for ministries. Those generally contract companies, which often involves expensive procurement. By having prisoners, for example make furniture or mattresses, the government can cut millions.A majority of the House has an open ear to the plans. The prisoners are kept busy, they learn a profession are better equipped to return to society, according to Teeven.
Teeven himself has a piece of furniture in his office, made by prisoners. It's a nice, stylish, rectangular cabinet, says the Secretary of State.
