KWF adjusts text on website
KWF, the Dutch cancer society, is adjusting the text on its website about investing in research. The organization notified the Central Bureau on Fundraising (CBF) of this measure, says CBF director Adri Kemps. In many communications the KWF created the impression that more than 80 percent of its funds is devoted to scientific research, announced NRC Handelsblad.
This percentage does not match the statements and information of the CBF, the body that controls whether charity organizations collect and spend their financial means responsibly.
Information on the website can indeed create the impression that KWF spends more on research than it actually does, states CBF director Kemps.

From the balance 72 percent went to research last year and 28 percent went to prevention and patient support, according to KWF. Following the publication of NRC Handelsblad KWF contacted Kemps. The communication can be improved and KWF will do so. The organization will also formulate their texts more carefully to avoid misunderstandings, reports Kemps.
