Decreased demand for blood
There is less and less demand for blood. The demand for donated blood has decreased in the last three years by 15 percentAccording to Sanquin, the umbrella organization of blood banks, hospitals nowadays use management techniques and procedures that deal with blood in a more efficient and more conscious way.
Doctors have become increasingly better at operating, which results in less need for transfusions, reports a spokesperson for Sanquin.
Because of the decrease Sanquin will close 26 smaller collection sites. People who want to donate blood are referred to the nearest larger site.
