8,132 visitors for Fries museum

On the first day of the new Fries Museum in Leeuwarden 8,132 visitors showed up to take look at the building and the exhibits. There was no admission fee and the museum was open until 20:00h.Earlier in the day Queen Máxima officially opened the Museum. It was the first time Máxima opened a museum in her status as Queen. The construction of the new museum became possible by a bequest of the Frisian architect Abe Bonnema in 2001. He left 18 million euros for the museum, but with two conditions: the museum had to be in the center of Leeuwarden and the architect had to be Hubert Jan Henket.
