Geograph During the fire pollutants were released in the air, including asbestos and sooth particles. Farmers in the area were initially instructed not to harvest any crops until the sooth particles were studied. An initial analysis by the National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) has shown that the sooth particles are likely not dangerous, reports the Gelderland municipality. The final conclusion follows Saturday, but that will not be drastically different from this preliminary determination, said a spokeswoman. The particles were inspected for dioxin and bromine. The particles precipitated in an area between Zevenaar, Doesburg and Didam, up to 10 kilometers from the fire. There were also some explosions and lots of smoke. The explosions and huge smoke had a great impact on the population, according to mayor Rider. The fire at the Hengelder industrial area began Friday morning around 06:00. The fire department engaged with heavy equipment. In total, between 100 and 200 fire fighters from 20 departments were involved. A helicopter took thermal images from above, to help effectively extinguish the fire. Promens had three warehouses. Two of these, with an area of respectively 800 and 1100 square meters, are completely lost. The third and largest warehouse is badly damaged.
