Traveling By Train More Expensive
The price of train tickets will rise by 3.4 percent in 2014. In this way, according to the Dutch Railways (NS), the travelers help to pay for the higher costs for the use of the track. This was reported by RTL News.
Starting 2015 the NS has to pay 50 million euro more per year for use of the track. That was a decision of the previous government. The rail will pass this to the traveler. To don’t immediately hit the travelers in 2015 with high extra expenses for traveling, the NS has chosen to create a smoother path and therefore will start with a moderate increase of the ticket price already in 2014, writes the NS in a letter.
According to travelers organization Beter OV (Better public transport), the NS is ‘walking ahead of the marching band’ and lets the customer already bear the cost.
Beter OV also thinks that the customer pays the bill for the fact that the NS and other railway companies have been wishful thinking by unjustly counted the double entry rate to their income. To ease their pain now, the NS makes the train tickets much more expensive.
