New currency in Rotterdam

In South Rotterdam people can use an exchange currency to pay for certain services, starting Tuesday. This new type of currency is called the Zuiderling. One Zuiderling is worth half an hour. Residents may hire other residents, for instance for a piano lesson or to prepare a meal. The initiators of the program hope to accomplish more interaction between residents and development of local talents. With this initiative we create more happiness and prosperity in South Rotterdam, says the organization. Rotterdam_P_de_Hoochweg-Humanitas_voorheen_Scheepvaartvereniging_Zuid,

Tips on what to spend Zuiderlingen on are available on the Zuiderlingen website, http://www.dezuiderling.nl/. Examples of what the exchange currency can be used for are putting up a painting, trimming the hedge, or for help with creating a résumé. Amsterdam, Utrecht, Nijmegen, and some other locations already have a similar system. In Amsterdam residents can pay for products and services with a Noppes and in Utrecht it's called a Star.
