Prince Johan Friso passed away on August 12 after a skiing accident. He was in a state of minimal consciousness for several months. The original scheduling of the festivity in Rotterdam on Yom Kippur had let down some Dutch Jews when it was declared in May. Chief Dutch rabbi Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs told JTA he was “not angry but pained” by the conflict in schedules. “I can see why the Jewish minority was overlooked in scheduling the event,” Jacobs said. “We are a very small minority. And that is painful.”
