Police Calls for Safety of Tourists

Police authorities in Amsterdam have requested the city council to develop a course of action to stop tourists from jumping out of high hotel windows. Hotels in Amsterdam
Photo by vgm8383/flickr This is in response to the series of deadly accidents lately involving tourists leaping from tall buildings. The incidents were reportedly drug-induced. In May, two foreign visitors, who were under the influence of drugs, leaped to their death. The police has now been encouraging the city council to look at steps to avoid similar accidents from happening again. Three years ago, a Brazilian student suffered a partial paralysis after an Australian man landed on him after jumping out of a window. The tourist was arrested and imprisoned for three months and was ordered to hand over €120,000 to the victim as compensation.
