Amsterdam Denies Excess Bikes

In response to the reports on the increasing accounts of surplus in bikes in Amsterdam, the city is denying such claims and insisting the number of bikes is normal. Residents, including bicycling advocates and city planners, are firm in saying that the number of bikes is not troubling at all. They say that streets packed with bikes are actually more preferable than streets congested with automobiles. “The main problem is the bike parking … If you were to turn 10 percent of the car parking places into bike parking places, the problem would completely be solved," said biking advocate Marjolein de Lange.
