The ships, MSC Opera and MSC Magnifica, were on their way to their respective destinations Guernsey and Hamburg. The meeting between the ships was accompanied by an exceptional ceremony at sea, witnessed by about 4800 passengers and 2000 crew. The Port of Amsterdam, the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam and Felison Terminal in IJmuiden took the opportunity, during this happening, to announce the growth of the cruise industry in the Amsterdam port region. The cruise industry in this region accounts for an estimated 90 million in revenues and 1100 jobs. Every docking ship is good for an average turnover of 350,000 to 600,000 euro. This includes the fees for nautical services and the spending of passengers and crew in the region.
