Woman Moves to the Jungle

Ten years ago, Polish-born Aska Brzezniakiewicz left the Netherlands and chose to settle in Guatemela, Tico Times reports. Rio Dulce, Guatemela
Strikjes/flickr Brzezniakiewicz was stuyding Economics and worked for a consultancy firm. The 43-year-old Brzezniakiewicz decided to give up her chic life in Eindhoven in exchange of a life in the tropical forests. She put up an eco-lodge in the jungle of Río Dulce in Izabal. “It was madness,” Brzezniakiewicz said. “But the first time I came to Guatemala in 1997 I just couldn’t stop smiling. Río Dulce’s the most beautiful place in the country, and as soon as I arrived here I started asking about the price of land.” Brzezniakiewicz has adapted to the lifestyle: no internet access, pumping water or hearing the sounds of the animals in the early morning, surrendering the comforts of the city life. She also shared that she has learned a lot from the supportive and cohesive community and she takes pleasure in the thrill and genuineness of the jungle.
