Asscher Worried About Recrutements For Syria
Lodewijk Asscher, Minister of Social Affairs and Vice Prime Minister, considers Islamic radicalization 'as a serious form of individual religious derailment’. He shares the concerns of parents who have reported that their kids have left for Syria as a jihad fighter. "It is in our mutual interest to address this worrying development and to ensure that traffickers are prosecuted."
Asscher wrote that on Thursday to the House. Although according to him, it is a local responsibility, the minister is willing to contribute. He wants to localize all the districts in municipalities where recruitment exists and then talk about with the municipalities.
The letter of Asscher is a response to a report in the newspaper Trouw on the Hague Schilderswijk. In one part of that neighborhood Sharia would rule. Asscher said after visiting the district that there is no evidence for that.
In his letter, the minister writes that there is no question of Sharia in the Schilderswijk, though it is a neighborhood that has problems. According to The Hague will criminal residents, who cross the line, will be arrested by the police. Asscher has been able to see that by himself during the visit.
However, the question arises as to what extent the demographics of neighborhoods like the Schilderswijk form a breeding ground for radicalization and recruitment practices. "It is important that local and national government cooperate and find an answer to this question".
