Netherlands Assists Ethiopia in Sesame Market

The Netherlands will aid Ethiopia to develop its sesame market competitively in the international sesame market, according to the Ethiopian business site 2merkato. The project was made possible through its ongoing support in the regional states of Amhara and Tigray. Moreover, these areas have been granted €1.9 million by the Dutch government for the next few years. SebastianMary (flickr) Dr. Geremew Terefe, the project coordinator, said the plan’s objective is to help Ethiopia’s sesame market become globally competitive, especially in Europe and Japan. He also said the project can train 14,000 farmers in these areas on the sesame production and the latest technologies. Different farmers, businessmen, investors, government authorities, and researchers from Amhara and Tigray and delegations from the Dutch government have participated in the forum.
