Memorial Day only about WOII
"On the 4th of May we should only remember victims of the Second World War, including the 102 thousand Jewish Dutch." The director of the foundation that coordinates special care for the Jewish community in the Netherlands, Stichting Joods Maatschappelijk Werk, wrote this in the newspaper de Volkskrant.
The Jewish community is deeply hurt by the broadening of the commemoration in which soldiers who died after World War 2 are now also remembered. Since 1961, people who were killed in the Dutch East Indies, Lebanon, Bosnia and Afghanistan have also been included in the memorial.
Nu.nl reported that the director wrote that the memorial is becoming more and more general, which is accompanied by a growing anti-Semitism.
