Police Apologized
The police have apologized for arresting two Republican protestors who were protesting against the monarchy at the de Dam in Amsterdam. They were brought back to the center of the city.
Nu.nl reported that one of the arrested, Joanna, was in conflict the police earlier this year. She was holding a sign, which said “I’m not a subordinate.” The other person, Hans Maessen, was the campaign leader of the Republican Society. He said that the police officer who arrested him acted on his own.
Individuals are allowed to protest against the monarchy so long as they do not demonstrate as a group. The Republicans choose the color white as their protest color. They wear white protest shirts, wave white handkerchiefs and carry white balloons.
