Ship Security Allowed

Certain categories of merchant ships can hire their own security personnel in the future for areas where pirates are active. The Dutch Minister of Defense, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, will draft a law that will make this possible and will prescribe strict conditions for the security. Nu.nl reported that at the moment Defense supplies VPD’s with military teams to protect the ships. However, according to ship owners, they are too expensive and not flexible enough.
