Jews Irritated About Coinciding Dates
The Dutch Jewish community (Nederlandse joodse gemeenschap) is irritated about the coinciding of the farewell party for Queen Beatrix with the most important Jewish celebration day, Jom Kipoer, on September 14.
Jews will not be able to attend the party meant to thank the queen for her years on the throne. The community considers the coinciding of the two events a ‘faux pas’, a breach of social rules and culture or the 'not being aware' of them. "Jews once again have to face the fact that we are not included, and that hurts,” said Chief Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs.
Nu.nl reports that the National Committee is aware of the disappointed reactions from the Jewish community. However, it does not seem likely that they will change the date as it is the only day that suitably matches their agenda.
