Seal in Drenthe

The seal that recently swam in the canals of Groningen travelled further inland to the province of Drenthe. People saw the animal in the small stream de Hunze, close to Annen, about 40 kilometers from the sea. According to seal sanctuary Pieterburen it is the first time that a seal have appeared in Drenthe. Last weekend, people saw the animal in het Zuidlaardermeer, a large lake in the north of the country. Nu.nl reported that a representative of the sanctuary said that seals can survive well in both salt and fresh water as long as there is enough food. "Sooner or later it will find its way back to the sea. There is no need to follow the animal." The organization advises people to leave the seal alone.
