Ten Percent Tourist Tax Increase
Amsterdam will earn a considerable amount of money from tourist taxes in 2013. Parool.nl reported that with an eye on the inauguration and the re-opening of museums, the city increased taxes by ten percent.
According to the website Looking for Booking, the capital is the most expensive place for an overnight stay after Haarlemmermeer (a municipality in the province of North Holland). The municipality will receive 5.5 percent of each hotel booking.
Amsterdam earned approximately 25 million euro from tourist taxes last year. With the same number of visitors, that figure will increase by 2.5 million euro this year. Moreover, because of the re-opening of the Rijksmuseum and the 400-year anniversary of the canals and mainly because of the worldwide marketing activities for those events, the city expects an increase of 5.8 million euro.
