Queen's day protests
Amsterdam has allowed demonstrations of anti-monarchists and other activists to be held in six of the city’s prominent locations during the accession festivities on the April 30.
Three places are in the center of Amsterdam: Waterlooplein, Spui and Frederiksplein. A forth location, het Frederik Hendrikplantsoen, is close to the city. The famous boat trip of the new Monarchs will pass along the last two cities, het Azartplein on het Java-eiland and het Ijplein in Noord.
Parool.nl reports that the reason for the expected demonstrations remains unknown. It is not known either how many protesters will show up. The different sites can accommodate thousands of people, and all emergency services are prepared.
A representative of the municipality said, "The activists can go to proper locations, close to the festivities. They also want to be seen."
