2000 people over 100

The Netherlands counts almost 2,000 100-plussers, people over a hundred year old. 87 percent of them are women and more than half still live independently. The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics, Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS), reported on Thursday that on the 1st of January of this year 1,940 people lived longer than a century. At that time the oldest resident of the Netherlands was a woman of 110 years of age. According to Nu.nl fewer men than women live in retirement homes because they have a younger partner taking care of them. Because women usually live longer than men, men logically live together longer than their female counterparts.
