Theft causes flood
Emergency crews responding to reports of flooded apartments in Zwanenveld believe damage was caused by copper theft. Police in the district southwest of Nijmegen Centrum told newswire ANP thieves caused the flooding by stripping a section of copper piping in the attic of an apartment complex.
24 homes were reportedly damaged to varying degree as water escaped from the pipe and ran down the walls of the building. An estimate of the damages has not been announced, but ground floor apartments are believed to have taken on a great deal of water.
Water has been shut down to the area. Social workers are believed to be assisting displaced residents with temporary housing.
