While many Dutch cities and rural areas are working on making electric driving easy and accessible, most still need more charging points for electric cars, according to a survey by consulting firm Over Morgen. In 2016 most Dutch municipalities did not have a sufficient number of charging stations, BNR reports.

One person was killed and another injured in a fire in a building in Venlo on Thursday afternoon, the Limburg-Noord fire department said on Twitter.

According to local safety office Veiligheidsregio Limburg-Noord, the fire started on the second floor of care institute Via Cresceno. Emergency services started evacuating the building around 12:00 p.m. 

The fire department has the fire under control. It is unclear how it started.

Frigid, and potentially freezing temperatures are expected across the Netherlands this week, dashing the hopes of many residents that a warm spring would make its return. The thermometer is expected to plummet as low as -1 degrees in Venlo, Limburg on Wednesday morning, but a strong Northerly wind will make it feel like -8 degrees there.

The city near the German border will like face three straight days of freezing temperatures in the early morning hours. Snow and sleet is even possible in parts of Limburg this week.

The Dutch tax authorities' investigative service FIOD received details of 3,800 Dutch with hidden assets and savings in Swiss bank accounts from an anonymous source, AD reports. Based on this information, FIOD launched an international hunt for Dutch tax evaders on Thursday.

According to the Tax Authorities, the details about hidden assets in Swiss bank accounts can be compared to the Panama Papers that leaked last year. All 3,800 Dutch-linked accounts are with one Swiss bank, which the Dutch authorities would not name.

Over half of the people suspected of a crime in the Netherlands committed that crime in the same municipality in which they live, according to an analysis of crime figures from 2016 by Statistics Netherlands. The police registered 268 thousand suspects last year.

Almost a third of suspects came from a different municipality. About 14 percent of suspects don't have a fixed address in the Netherlands. In nearly a fifth of crimes, the suspects live in one of the four large Dutch cities - Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.

Hundreds of balconies of at least 10 apartment buildings in Venlo are closed to their owners by order of the municipality. There are problems with the reinforcement of the balconies' concrete slabs and the balconies may not be safe, RTL Nieuws reports.

This involves at least 10 apartment buildings that were built in the 1960's on Karel van Egmondstraat, Vinckenhofstraat and Groenstraat.

The police station in Venlo was closed to the public for several hours overnight after three boys brought in a World War II hand grenade they found, AD reports.

The boys found the explosive earlier on Sunday and decided to take it to the police office on Rijnbeekstraat, according to the newspaper. 

Police officers carefully placed it in the parking lot and called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to come deal with it. The police station and Rijnbeekstraat was closed down while they waited for the team to arrive.

The PVV shares views with many local parties, Wilders said in the interview. "We already hear of people who want to change", he said. So far the far-right party was only active in The Hague and Almere. "But people want more. I notice that there is a need."

A 15-year-old girl was stabbed on her way to school in Venlo on Monday morning after getting into a fight with a pedestrian. The girl was rushed to the hospital and the police were able to speak with her. The suspect is still at large.

Police in Tilburg arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly throwing a punch at a NS train chief conductor after he was slapped with a fine for riding the railway without a ticket. The suspect later shouted “I’ll kill you!” at the worker, while holding a Stanley knife, police reported.
