VVD leader and current Prime Minister Mark Rutte would like to form a cabinet consisting of his VVD, the CDA and D66, he said on Monday after . Parliamentarian Jacques Monasch left the PvdA and cancelled his membership to the paryt, he announced on Monday afternoon. He is, however, holding on to his seat in parliament, NU.nl reports.

"I do this with a lot of grief. I've been a member of the PvdA since I was 16. I worked in all conres of the country for the party. But I think that the PvdA should be loyal to itself and show itself respect. They are now going a way that I can no longer take because i think we should be an open party, especially now that things are so difficult", Monasch said, according to the newspaper.

A narrow majority in the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, has thrown its support behind the Netherlands extending its bombing attacks on Islamic States to also include Syria. At this stage the Netherlands is only participating in airstrikes against the terrorist organization in Iraq.

The Central Jewish Board (CJO) is asking synagogue congregations to start a letter-writing campaign to convince the Mayors of their cities to add more security around Jewish sites in the Netherlands. The letter is a response to the attack in Paris and the raid in Verviers, reports NRC. Both France and Belgium have deployed the army to guard the Jewish institutions.
