Two suspects were arrested on Sunday in connection with a video on Facebook showing a young Muslim woman being attacked by two men in Amsterdam Noord, the police department Amsterdam Boven IJ announced on Facebook.

The video shows the woman, wearing a hijab or headscarf, lying on the ground and trying to cover her head with her arms while two men viciously kick and beat her. The men's faces can be seen on the video.

A meeting will be held in Amstelveen next week between city councilors and members from the Jewish- and Muslim communities in the city. The goal is to discuss the important issues for both groups in the run up to the parliamentary elections in March, Het Parool reports.

The meeting is organized by the Jewish Muslim Platform Amstelland, the Jewish-Islamic organization Mo&Moos and the Jewish Bendigamos. Amstelveen councilors of the VVD, PvdA, D66, SP, ChristenUnie, CDA and GroenLinks will attend.

The number of incidents involving Muslim discrimination recorded by the police last year more than tripled comopared to 2014, according to a study by the Verwey-Jonker Institute, commissioned by the Anne Frank Foundations. The incidents increased from 142 in 2014 to 446 last year, ANP reports.

More than half of all the Islamic institutions and businesses in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region faced discrimination last year and in the first three months of this. In the same period more than 700 Muslims in the region also reported being threatened or unfair treatment because of their religion, according to a study by umbrella organization SPIOR

The hotline for reporting Islam-phobia recorded a total of 158 cases of violence against Muslims in the Netherlands last year. In 90 percent of these cases, women wearing headscarves were targeted. 29 percent of those incidents involved physical violence. In most cases the perpetrators were white men, according to the hotline's annual figures.

Another two arrests were made in connection with a Molotov cocktail thrown at a mosque in Enschede in February. Two men aged 24 and 36 were arrested in Enschede on Tuesday, on suspicion of consipiracy and preparation for arson with terrorist intent

The suicide bombings in Brussels on Tuesday hit Muslims in the Netherlands just as hard as everyone else, but with the addition that they also have to worry about retaliation. Several Muslim organizations are organizing a peace rally in Amsterdam on Friday, to show solidarity and support for Brussels and Belgium.

Violent incidents directed against mosques are increasingly common occurrences and happen far more often than is reported in the media, according to researcher Ineke van der Valk. "Many Mosque leaders choose not to make the violence against their address public", she said to Dutch newspaper Trouw. "For example, because they do not want to exacerbate the matter."
