King Willem-Alexander is proud of the way in which the Netherlands sheltered 65 thousand asylum seekers that flooded into the country since 2015, he said in an interview with Italian newspaper La Republica. He is proud to say that not one asylum seeker had to sleep on the street, the Telegraaf reports.

The Dutch King called the Netherlands a school example of a multicultural society, and Amsterdam the capital of tolerance. He added that the Netherlands has been sheltering people from all over the world for centuries.

Dutch journalist Derk Walters - NRC correspondent on Israel and Palestine - was told to leave Israel by July. The Israeli Government Press Office (GPO) will not renew his work visa. According to the GPO, this is because NRC does not adhere to the country's accreditation rules. However, the NRC believes it is because Walters is critical about Israel in his reporting.

Three out of five journalists in the Netherlands were threatened or intimidated at least once during the course of his or her work, according to a study by the Dutch association of journalists NVJ. A fifth of Dutch journalists say they are threatened on a monthly basis, NOS and NRC reports.

The study report, written by former Ombudsman Alex Brenninkmeijer, will be officially presented on Wednesday, according to the two news agencies.

The Netherlands is among the top ten least corrupt countries in the world, according to the annual Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International. In 8th place with a score of 83 out of 100, the Netherlands stands above neighbors Germany (10th place) and Belgium (15th place).

 The list consists of 176 countries. The average score was 43 out of 100.

With threats and intimidation motorcycle gang No Surrender forced weekly magazine Panorama to stop publishing stories about the motorcycle gang, NRC reports. In 2014 two No Surrender leaders forced chief editor Frans Lomans to sign a contract stating that journalist Mylene de la Haye is no longer to write and publish articles about the motorcycle gang, according to the newspaper.

She is especially sour about the way Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs claimed credit for her release, she said in an interview with the Telegraaf.
