The Martinus College in Grootebroek, Noord-Holland was evacuated late on Wednesday morning after between 30 and 40 students and teachers became unwell. A strange smell left the people in the school feeling nauseous and dizzy. One student fainted, NOS reports.

The ill students and teachers were treated outside the school by a score of emergency services. One person started hyperventilating and was taken to hospital.

A large part of the Ceintuurbaan in Amsterdam was closed down and evacuated after two unattended suitcases were found in tram 24, near Ferdinand Bolstraat on Tuesday. The police are investigating.

GVB employees noticed a suspicious looking person placing the suitcases in the tram around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday and called the police. After some deliberation, the authorities decided to evacuate the area, AT5 reports. Shopkeepers were instructed to close their stores, local residents were instructed to stay inside and pedestrians were escorted out of the area.

The Dutch government is preparing a possible evacuation for the few hundred Dutch in Venezuela. The South-American country is in the midst of a massive crisis and there is hardly any food or medicine available. Angry Venezuelans have been demonstrating against the government for weeks, during which 42 people have been killed and hundreds others injured, RTL Nieuws reports.

Two people were held hostage in a standoff that ended in a man dressed only in his underpants being arrested in Arnhem on Wednesday afternoon, the Arnhem mayor, police and Public Prosecutor said in a press conference. The man was in possession of a fake firearm, a fake bomb vest and several knives, NOS reports.

The COOP supermarket on Hommelseweg in Arnhem and various homes in the Klarendal neighborhood were evacuated on Wednesday afternoon due to reports about an armed man in the district center on Rappardstraat. Hommelseweg and a number of side streets are closed to everyone except the emergency services, AD and the Gelderlander report.

About a dozen homes were evacuated in Doetinchem, Gelderland on Monday morning after burglars used heavy explosives to steal from a Rabobank cash machine. Plumes of smoke hung over the city after the blast, with witnesses first calling emergency services around 4:10 a.m., police said in a statement.

More explosives were found at the scene by a bomb disposal unit, prompting emergency teams to evacuate the area as a precaution. The explosive material was later detonated at another location.

About a dozen homes on Bogardeind in Geldorp were evacuated on Tuesday evening after a bomb was found in a recently bought van. It eventually turned out to be a fake bomb used in Defense training, ANP reports.

A Geldorp man bought the Peugeot Partner from a car dealer in Oosterhout and drove it home. There he discovered some loose wires and what looked like a stick of dynamite in the back of the vehicle, AD reports. He immediately called the police.

The Groningen Airport in Eelde was evacuated on Tuesday morning after an abandoned suitcase was noticed, a spokesperson for the Koninklijke Marechaussee confirmed to AD. After a sniffer dog, specially flown in from Schiphol, found nothing suspicious in the suitcase, the airport was released again.

One person was killed and another slightly injured in a fire in a seniors' apartment building in Landgraaf, Limburg on Wednesday night, De Limburger reports.

The fire started around 11:30 p.m. on the third floor of the complex on Kerkstraat. Firefighters responded en masse, including departments from Germany, according to the newspaper. 

Around midnight the fire department decided to evacuate the complex. Residents of the 48 apartments were given shelter in a nearby building. The fire was under control around 1:00 a.m.

A number of homes on Dolderstraat in Wageningen were evacuated at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning due to the discovery of a suspicious substance believed to be explosive. The substance was found after a break-in at a garage on the street, the Gelderlander reports.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called in to collect the substance. It is as yet unclear exactly what the substance is or whether it is in fact explosive. The police are investigating.

It is also unclear whether the burglars took anything from the garage.

Radboud University in Nijmegen was the site of a shortly lived, but quite intense fire on Tuesday afternoon. According to the university, a cooling tower on the roof of the Spinoza building on Montessorilaan caught fire during maintenance work. The fire caused a lot of smoke and the building had to be evacuated, but no one was injured.

The fire was under control by 12:55 p.m. and by 1:15 p.m. eight of the nine floors in the building was released. Students, lecturers and staff were allowed back inside. The entire building was released by 14:35 p.m., the university said on Twitter.

A total of 16 people were taken to various Rotterdam hospitals on Sunday night to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. The poisonous gas was released into their homes by a faulty heating system in their apartment building on Wuysterstraat in Rotterdam-Zuid, RTL Nieuws reports. 

A spokesperson for safety office Veligheidsregio Rotterdam-Rijnmond confirmed to the broadcaster that all 16 people were hospitalized and that their current conditions are unclear. He added that he expects they will all be able to return home in short order.

A fire in an apartment building in Rosmalen triggered the evacuation of 28 flats during the early hours of Tuesday morning. One resident was taken to hospital with unknown injuries, NU.nl reports.

The fire started around 1:15 a.m. in an apartment on the third floor of an apartment building on Herman Moerkerklaan, Brabants Daggblad reports. The fire department evacuated surrounding apartments as a precaution. Over 50 people had to leave their homes.

The police found an explosive in a home on Robert Scottstraat in Den Bosch on Sunday night. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in and advised that the surrounding homes be evacuated. The residents of four homes spent about an hour and a half taking shelter in a police van before being allowed to return to their homes, NOS reports.

An ATM bombing at a Rabobank branch in Didam early on Thursday morning left the bank's facade severely damaged, dozens of local residents evacuated and locked out of their homes and about 10 stores closed. This is because unused explosives were found at the scene, Omroep Gelderland reports. 

The bombing happened just after 3:00 a.m. at the Rabobank in Wilhelminastraat. About 20 residents were evacuated from around a dozen homes above and around the bank. They were given shelter in the town hall. About 10 surrounding stores also had to remain close on Thursday morning.

A mentally disturbed man caused havoc on the Dutch government complex the Binnenhof in The Hague on Thursday afternoon. He threw a bag at the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, from the square in front of it. The square was evacuated, surrounding streets were closed down for several hours and warning shots were fired before the man was finally arrested, the Telegraaf reports.

The central hall of Amsterdam Central Station was evacuated and closed down to the public for a short time on Monday night due to abandoned luggage. The police investigated and found nothing suspicious in the luggage, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter.

The east- and west- sides of the station were still accessible during the investigation.. Train traffic was also not disrupted, a spokesperson for NS said to the Telegraaf.

The police shot and injured a man after a fire in an apartment building in Zwolle on Monday morning. He was taken to hospital with injuries in his leg, according to De Stentor.

The fire started in the apartment building on Van der Laenstraat around 2:30 a.m. on Monday. The building was evacuated. After the fire was extinguished and the fire department started cleaning up, several shots were fired.

An ATM bombing on Monseigneur Zwijsenplein in Kerkdriel around 4:00 a.m. on Monday morning left two buildings on fire. Surrounding buildings were evacuated.

According to Brabants Dagblad, the fire started in The Read Shop, a store that sells books and magazines, and then spread to the adjacent Kruidvat. The Hema is also filled with smoke. Firefighters managed to get the fire under control around 8:30 a.m. The Read Shop and Kruidvat sustained significant damage and can be considered lost.

Nine homes on Slotermeerlaan in Amsterdam were evacuated on Monday morning due to a risk of explosion, caused by ATM bombers leaving explosives behind after being interrupted in their bombing by the police, AT5 reports.

According to the police, the ATM bombers were interrupted by a police car driving by while they were still planting their explosives. They fled on a scooter, leaving a van and the explosives behind on the street, near Plein '40-'45.

Strong tremors resulted in 24 homes on Allard Piersonstraat in Rotterdam's Delfshaven being evacuated as a precaution on Thursday afternoon. Residents were locked out of their homes for hours before being allowed to return late in the evening. Investigation found "nothing alarming", a spokesperson for the safety office said, AD reports.

Emergency services responded en masse. The street was closed down. Some 40 people residents were given shelter in a nearby mosque. Others stayed with neighbors. No one was injured.

Several hundred passengers were evacuated from Eindhoven Airport on Tuesday morning after the discovery of an unattended bag. Dogs trained to sniff out explosives were deployed. The bag contained nothing suspicious and the airport was opened again, AD reports.

The evacuation did lead to delays for football team PSV, who was scheduled to travel to Madrid for a Champons League match against Atletico Madrid. Their plane was scheduled for departure 15 minutes after the evacuation ocurred.
