The votes of 919 Dutch people abroad did not reach the Netherlands in time to count in the , the Volkskrant reports based on information from the municipality of The Hague. The city served as central point for votes coming from abroad.

D66 leader Alexander Pechtold hopes that by the end of today's government formation negotiations - the last session before the May recess - there will be more clarity on the status of forming a government between the VVD, CDA, D66 and GroenLinks, he said before entering the talks on Thursday, NU.nl reports.

"We should get an idea today about where we stand", Pechtold said. "This past week was important and useful. Sometimes very tough, but still with good steps."

There will be no government formation talks between the VVD, CDA, D66 and GroenLinks on Thursday because GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver's mother was admitted to hospital. Her condition is worrying, Klaver told negotiation leader Edith Schippers on Wednesday. The other parties therefore decided to temporarily suspend the negotiations, NU.nl reports.

Negotiators for the VVD, CDA, D66 and GroenLinks talked about security, the judiciary and income disparities on Tuesday during the negotiations on forming a new Dutch government. On Wednesday they will continue to discuss security. Experts in the field of security and defense were invited to the morning negotiation session, Het Parool reports. 

"We talked about security. That is an important issue. We need to develop new ideas", D66 leader Alexander Pechtold said after Tuesday's negotiations. VVD negotiator Halbe Zijlstra added that income disparities were also on the table.

When the basic study grant was abolished, the government promised that the money saved would be invested in education. The government is failing to live up to that promise, according to student organizations ISO and LSVB, RTL Nieuws reports.

According to the organizations, in the year 2000 the government spent nearly 20 thousand euros for each student at university. In 2025 that amount will be only 14,300 euros. There is also a decline for students attending colleges.

It seems that highly educated Dutch tend to vote more progressively. According to a study by the Erasmus University Rotterdam's Erasmus Magazine, if only votes cast at polling stations located at colleges and universities in the parliamentary election last month, the D66 and GroenLinks would together have more than half of the parliamentary seats. While the VVD, PVV and CDA together only got 24 percent of the votes.

Police took four teenaged boys into custody late Sunday in connection with the assault of two gay men in Arnhem. The victims were holding hands walking home from a party early Sunday morning when they were confronted by a group of young men shouting slurs at them.

They were then struck by a man wielding a heavy set of bolt cutters, kocking out four of Ronnie Sewratan-Vernes' teeth and severing his lip, and injuring the ribs of Jasper Vernes-Sewratan. The two say they usually conceal their relationship in public, but were holding hands after a fun night out.

Ransomware was found on the computer systems of the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, a spokesperson for the Kamer confirmed to various news sources after D66 parliamentarian Kees Verhoeven posted about it on Twitter. Exactly what happened is unclear, but according to Tweakers, the problems are largely solved.

"The Kamer already took appropriate measures. As usual, we can not discuss it further because of safety", the Kamer spokesperson said to NOS.

GroenLinks youth movement Dwars is warning party leader Jesse Klaver not to jump into a coalition too quickly. If GroenLinks has to compromise too much on its goals, it may be better not to be part of the government, Dwars chairman Noortje Blokhuis said to BNR.

The fact that the first coalition formation being examined is "very exciting", Blohuis said. "The first question on the table is if we should even do it. It depends entirely on whom GroenLinks can govern with and what the parties are willing to compromise on for us."

After all of the larger parties' leaders gave their coalition wishes through to coalition scout Edith Schippers, it is clear that the CDA, D66 and VVD are all willing to work together. A fourth party will be needed to give the coalition a majority, and the most likely candidates seem to be GroenLinks and ChristenUnie. So far the PVV hasn't been mentioned in any ideal cabinet, except on the PVV's own wish list. Leader Geert Wilders called it "undemocratic and unmarketable" if his party is not part of the coalition negotiations, the Volkskrant reports.

GroenLinks party leader Jesse Klaver thinks it will be "difficult" to for his party to form a coalition party with the VVD, the biggest party after the election, but he is willing to consider it, the Telegraaf reports.
