The Dutch police decided to spread their 'cold case calendar' among all 30 thousand detainees in Dutch prisons. An , which contains details about 52 cold cases - one for each week, being spread in five prisons proved to be successful, ANP reports.

André S., sentenced to four years in prison two weeks ago for raping a Den Bosch woman in 1995, committed suicide in his cell in the prison in Grave, his lawyer Jori Schadd said to Omroep Brabant. The 41-year-old man hung himself on Friday night. "The man leaves a family with wife and children", the lawyer said.

The Public Prosecutor demanded 13 years in prison against suspects Frank S. and Souris R. for the murder of Alex Wiegmink over 14 years ago. The suspects were also charged with hiding Wiegmink's body, but that charge was dropped because its statute of limitations was reached, NOS reports.

The police received dozens of new tips about the murder of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in 1998 after a large-scale DNA investigation was announced on Tuesday. So far a total of 35 people came forward with tips and information, NOS reports.

All information will be carefully investigated, the police said.

The Public Prosecutor is launching a massive DNA kinship investigation in an ultimate effort to find out who murdered 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen from Heibloem in 1998, Prosecutor Roger Bos announced in a press conference in Maastricht on Tuesday. The magistrate gave permission for DNA samples to be taken from 15 thousand men, AD reports.

Nicky Verstappen was found murdered one day after he disappeared from a summer camp on Brunssummerheide in August 1998. His body was found over a kilometer from the camp. The perpetrator was never found.

With the arrest of a 58-year-old man from Rotterdam the police believe they made their first breakthrough in a cold case investigation into the murders of 85 prostitutes in the 80's and 90's. According to the police, the suspect can definitely be linked to two murders, and possibly to three others as well, AD reports.

The Public Prosecutor closed the investigation into the death of 19-year-old Leon Groeneweg from Schiedam. There are no new leads to follow and it is not even clear whether a crime was committed, AD reports.

Leon Groeneweg disappeared in June 2008, shortly after telling his parents that he wants to part ways with a group of friends because of their increasing drug use and criminal activity. His body was found in the Brielse Meer, near camp Kruininger Gors nine days later.

The Dutch police reopened a cold case of a severed head found in the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal, near Breukelen in July 2006. Using new techniques the police reconstructed the head and new information indicates that the victim is a Colombian or Ecuadorian man between the ages of 42 and 45 years, the police in Huizen said.

In September 2005 a burnt body was found in a case in a forest near Huizen. The body's head and hands were missing. The rest of the body parts, including the head, were found in the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal almost a year later.

On Tuesday the police arrested two brothers in Eindhoven on suspicion of involvement in a brutal robbery and rape in a chalet in Schaijk in 2009. New information led investigators to the suspects, the police said in a statement on Wednesday. The suspects, age 26 and 28 years, are in custody for further investigation.

Two suspects were arrested on Wednesday afternoon in connection with the 2003 murder of Alex Wiemink in Posbank, also known as the Posbank murder. The police believe Wiemink was killed because he accidentally witnessed a crime, crime reporter Peter R. de Vries and Aart Garssen, head of the regional criminal investigation department in Oost-Nederland, announced at a press conference on Wednesday, AD reports.

Alex Wiegmink, 44, was reported missing on January 20th, 2003 when he never came home from a run in the Posbank in Rheden. His remains were found in his burning Opel Omega in the woods near Erp, Brabant later that night.

Thirteen years after the murder of Alex Wiegmink in Posbank, the police believe they are close ot a breakthrough, crime journalist Peter R. de Vries reported on Twitter. According to him, a cold case team of 20 detectives are working on the case and they found new technical evidence.

Alex Wiegmink was murdered in 2003, according to NOS. He went to the Posbank park for a run, but never returned. HIs body wasl later found in a burnt out car in Erp, Brabant. According to the broadcaster, it is assumed that Wiegmink witnessed a crime.
