Historic bridges in Amsterdam's Watergraafsmeer are in dire need of repair, the Heemschut Heritage Association wrote in a letter to Amsterdam district Oost, Het Parool reports.

The association is referring to bridges around the Galileiplantsoen and Arcihmedesplantsoen, according to the newspaper. They were designed in the Amsterdam School-style by architect Piet Kramer in 1928.

Darkness reigned on many Amsterdam streets on Tuesday night in an outing that seemed to only affect the streetlights. Streetlights in neighborhoods Oost, Osdorp, West and Haarlemmerbuurt, among others, were not working.

A spokesperson for the Amsterdam municipality told Het Parool that street lighting in the entire city was experiencing problem. The cause of the outing is unclear, but most streets had light again after a few hours.

Three suspects were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the death of an 80-year-old woman on Kastanjeplein in June last year. One of the suspects is the victim's son, 54-year-old Hans W., according to the Telegraaf.

Emergency services found the body of a man in a garage on Nieuwevaartweg in Amsterdam-Oost just after midnight on Sunday. So far nothing is known about the cause of the man's death or his identity, the police said in a statement.

Officers found also found a man and woman in the building who were both ill. They were rushed to the hospital. Another two men were found in the building. Both were arrested for questioning.

The fire department made numerous measurements and did several tests and concluded that carbon monoxide poisoning is not behind the death.
