A large fire broke out in a vacation home in the Hommelheide resort in Susteren around 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Four people were injured, three of whom had to be taken to hospital for further treatment, De Limburger reports.

The fire broke out in a chalet on Hommelweg. The chalet was inhabited by seven foreign workers, according to the newspaper. Six of them managed to escape the fire unaided. Firefighters had to find and bring out the seventh resident. 

The fire was under control around 6:30 a.m. The home completely burnt down and can be considered lost.

Negotiations between the VVD, D66, CDA and GroenLinks on forming a new Dutch government together will resume today. Talks were k after GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver's mother was hospitalized. Her condition is still worrying, but Klaver will be back at the negotiation table on Tuesday, his spokesperson said to ANP.

The Dutch government ordered a salvage operation for the cargo of an 18th century Dutch East Indies ship which sank near Kent, England in 1740. An international team will salvage the cargo of De Rooswijk between July and October, NU.nl reports.

Minister Jet Bussemaker of Education, Culture and Science called De Rooswijk a "time capsule" in an interview with AD on Tuesday. The ship offers "a unique view into the past", the departing Minster said. "The archeological information we can gain from this wreck is extremely valuable to describe this period in history."

A c to close the Amsterdam coal plant on Hemweg collected over 5 million euros. Over 41 thousand people and organizations supported the campaign.

At 10:20 a.m. on Monday the campaign raised 5,085,395 euros from 41,547 supporters. The objective of the campaign is to buy the Hemweg plant from owner Nuon and then close it.

Not a single country in the European Union, including the Netherlands, congratulated Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his on Sunday. The projected results show that 51.4 percent of Turks voted 'yes' on a referendum that gives Erdogan more power, including the possibility of ruling Turkey until 2029.

Packets of what is believed to be drugs were found washed up at various locations along the coast of Zeeland and around Eemshaven in Groningen on Sunday. Whether there is a connection between the packets is being investigated, ANP reports.

The police called on citizens to report any washed up packets to emergency line 112.

Studying in Amsterdam seems to be becoming increasingly only for the "white elite", according to student union ASVA and Amsterdam United. Especially young people with financially less well-off parents and young people with a non-Western background have a hard time getting into higher education in the Dutch capital, Metro Nieuws reports. 

"Education is increasingly only for the white elite. Action must be taken now", Henriette Hoogervorst, chairman of ASVA, said to the newspaper.

A fire that broke out in a student dorm on Nieuwe Ebbingestraat in Groningen on Monday left three people injured. One was taken to the hospital for treatment, the other two were treated at the scene. The fire department managed to extinguish the fire relatively quickly, Oog TV reports.

Firefighters responded en masse due to the belief that people were trapped in the burning dorm. This turned out not to be the case. The dorm was ventilated after the fire was extinguished.

About a third of kids in group 8 score higher in their final test than the level at which their school estimated them, according to a report by the Education Inspectorate. For 13 thousand kids, about one in five students, this led to a an adjusted high school advice last year. The Inspectorate noticed that especially kids of highly educated parents end up getting a better advice as these parents are more insistent about it and are more likely to get tutors for their children, AD reports.

Emissions of greenhouse gas methane is much higher in the Netherlands than existing figures would suggest, according to De Correspondent. Since 1990 methane emissions did not decrease by 43 percent, but only by 20 percent, the newspaper reports based on measurements in the field by journalist Han van de Wiel.

Methane gas is a much stronger and more dangerous greenhouse gas than CO2 and is especially released by cattle. Existing figures on this gas are based on estimates and unverifiable claims from the industry - not actual measurements, according to the newspaper.

One person was killed in a shooting in a parking lot on Sylvain Poonsstraat in The Hague shortly before midnight on Monday. The police are searching for the perpetrators, who may have fled in a car. As far as is known, no arrests were made so far.

A witness told Den Haag FM that the victim is in a car on the parking lot. Windows of two cars, parked next to each other, were shot out. The side window of a green car is shattered, as is the back window of a black car parked next to it.

Erdogan opponents in Turkey questioned the veracity of the vote count, with Turkish state media claiming that 70 percent of Turkish passport holders in the Netherlands .

Frigid, and potentially freezing temperatures are expected across the Netherlands this week, dashing the hopes of many residents that a warm spring would make its return. The thermometer is expected to plummet as low as -1 degrees in Venlo, Limburg on Wednesday morning, but a strong Northerly wind will make it feel like -8 degrees there.

The city near the German border will like face three straight days of freezing temperatures in the early morning hours. Snow and sleet is even possible in parts of Limburg this week.

Bullets whizzed through a Roosendaal neighborhood Sunday night in what police allege to be a targeted shooting of a home on the Diepenberg in the Noord-Brabant city. Several shots were fired at the home, bursting windows before the suspects escaped just after 11 p.m. on Easter.

There were no injuries in the incident despite at least one resident being home at the time of the shooting, police told Omroep Brabant.

Police have not yet identified a motive in the shooting.
