A huge explosion in an apartment building in Veendam on Wednesday morning left the building on the edge of collapse, the Groningen fire department said on Twitter. The apartment building is located on the corner of Julianalaan and Prins Bernhardlaan. Emergency services are at the scene.

A wild boar got stuck in a fence on Dianestraat in Waalre on Monday afternoon. The animal was eventually shot and killed by a hunter, after firefighters unsuccessfully tried to free the boar by sawing through the fence bars, a witness said to Omroep Brabant.
A large fire broke out in a vacation home in the Hommelheide resort in Susteren around 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Four people were injured, three of whom had to be taken to hospital for further treatment, De Limburger reports.
The fire broke out in a chalet on Hommelweg. The chalet was inhabited by seven foreign workers, according to the newspaper. Six of them managed to escape the fire unaided. Firefighters had to find and bring out the seventh resident.
The fire was under control around 6:30 a.m. The home completely burnt down and can be considered lost.
Negotiations between the VVD, D66, CDA and GroenLinks on forming a new Dutch government together will resume today. Not a single country in the European Union, including the Netherlands, congratulated Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his projected win in a referendum in Turkey on Sunday. The projected results show that 51.4 percent of Turks voted 'yes' on a referendum that gives Erdogan more power, including the possibility of ruling Turkey until 2029.
Packets of what is believed to be drugs were found washed up at various locations along the coast of Zeeland and around Eemshaven in Groningen on Sunday. Whether there is a connection between the packets is being investigated, ANP reports.
