Bearded saki monkey at Apenheul zoo

Apenheul welcomed a new species of monkey this week. The zoo is now home to two bearded saki monkeys, making Apenheul one of only four zoos in all of Europe where these rare monkeys can be seen, De Stentor reports.

Bearded sakis can be recognized by their beard and thick tail. The two male bearded sakis now living in Apenheul come from Belfast and Colchester. They are still getting used to their new home in the Dutch zoo. One has already been spotted outside on the Wolapeneiland several times, the other is still a little shy.

A baby white rhinoceros was born at Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem on Thursday night. Thousands of people watched the birth, which happened at 10:30 p.m., live via webcam, according to the zoo.

This is the second time mother Izala gives birth at the zoo. Her first baby was stillborn in January 2016. According to the zoo, it is common for white rhinos to struggle with the first birth. This second birth went very well. 

The new baby rhino is a girl and was named Wiesje, according to Omroep Gelderland.

Izala came to the Arnhem zoo from a zoo in Kolmarden, Sweden in 2013.

Every year the Dutch police pay over 10 million euros to traumatized cops, NRC reports based on figures requested from the police. Since 2014, officers who suffered a trauma during the course of their duties can claim compensation from a national reporting point. 

The height of the compensation depends on the degree of the trauma and how long it left the affected police officer unable to work. Over the past three and a half years, the police paid more than 39 million euros on this compensation, according to the newspaper.

From September 1st homeowners in Amsterdam can apply for a subsidy to remove their home from the gas connection. The Dutch capital aims to be gas-free by 2050 in order to drastically reduce CO2 emissions in the city. That means that 350 thousand homes must move from natural gas to sustainable heating and electric cooking, Het Parool reports.

Tilburg can close a bar frequented by outlaw motorcycle gang Satudarah for six weeks, the court ruled on Thursday. The closure follows the discovery of two knives and about 20 bags containing residues of cocaine during a police raid in March. The court's motivation will follow later. The bar, called Drinks & Dance, must close on Friday, ANP reports.

A previous attempt to close the bar on Zevenheuvelenweg failed because the proprietor won a lawsuit against the municipality.

A man was found critically injured in a car on Isenburgstraat in Breda on Thursday night. The police believe he was assaulted. The injured man was taken to hospital, AD reports.

Witnesses saw two perpetrators flee around 11:10 p.m. The car the man was found in was parked in a parking ot near the Broekakker. The car's windows were broken and its tailgate stood open.

This is a joint action from the Dutch and Belgian authorities, a spokesperson for the Dutch Public Prosecutor said to the Telegraaf, though she would not say exactly where the raids are done.

The police found various types of synthetic drugs in a raid at a business property in Boxtel, Noord-Brabant on Wednesday. Three persons were arrested, the Public Prosecutor announced.

The suspects are two men and one woman. They were arrested on Tuesday. According to the Public Prosecutor, the suspects ran a mail-order drugs service. They systematically sold drugs to customers abroad, and then mailed the drugs to them.

A  55-year-old man from Tilburg lost his driver's license on Wednesday night after he was caught driving nearly 100 kilometers per hour over the speed limit through his home town. 

The police caught the man driving 176 km/h on Burgemeester Letschertweg, where the speed limit is 80 kilometers per hour. 

The traffic cop, who caught the man with a laser gun speed trap, confiscated the Tilburg man's driver's license immediately. He was also fined. The amount of the fine, and the period of time the man's driver's license will be suspended, will be determined by the Prosecutor.

The mental healthcare sector in the Netherlands is struggling to find enough qualified staff, according to an annual survey of the sector by Intrakoop and accountant Verstegen. The total number of vacancies in the sector grew by a massive 28.5 percent last year to 5,151, newspaper AD reports. 

Almost a thousand of the vacancies were difficult to fill, according to the report. The total 186 mental healthcare organizations in the Netherlands are good for around 64 thousand full-time jobs, the researchers estimate.
