After years of a budget deficit, the Dutch government managed to achieve a budget surplus in 2016. And that surplus is even 14 times larger than previously expected - a massive 2.9 billion euros, according to Statistics Netherlands on Friday. The Dutch economy also gew more than expected in previous estimations, RTL Nieuws reports.

A 39-year-old man arrested in Antwerp on Thursday on suspicion of trying to commit a terrorist attack, was arrested three times last week. One of those times happened in Rotterdam, Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws reports.

Why suspect Mohamed R. was arrested in Rotterdam is unclear. The police told him that he had to leave the Netherlands. He listened, because on Monday the Belgian police checked him at a friend's house in Hoboken, according to the newspaper.

Two bodies were found in the old Hotel Rembrandt on Patersstraat in Arnhem on Thursday night, the police said in a statement. The victims are a man and a woman.

The police responded to the building around 7:30 p.m. after an alarm went off. No further details were given, other than that the police are investigating the circumstances of the victims' deaths.

Toyota Industries bought Dutch luggage conveyor belt company Vanderlande for 1.2 billion euros after majority shareholder NPM Capital reached an agreement with the Japanese company, NOS reports.

Vanderlande, based in Veghel in Brabant, builds logistic transport systems for warehouses, distribution centers and transportation centers. It is one of the world leaders in baggage conveyors at airports. The company employs 4,500 people worldwide, including 1,600 in the Netherlands. In 2015 Vanderlande had a turnover of almost one billion euros.

The Keukenhof opens for the season on Thursday. This season will be in the theme of Dutch Design, with floral designs inspired by works by Dutch artists. The center piece this year is a floral work inspired by Mondriaan, NU.nl reports.

The Mondriaan work is a 250 square meters floral mosaic designed in the famous Mondriaan colored squares and rectangles. A massive 80 thousand bulbs were planted in two layers to keep the mosaic in bloom throughout the spring. It consists of tulips, grape hyacinths and crocus.

Dunkin Donuts plans to eventually open 160 stores in the Netherlands, the first of which opened in Amsterdam on Nieuwendijk on Thursday. Dozens of people lined up early on Thursday morning to be the first through the door of the new branch, Het Parool reports.

Some even spent the night in line in front of the donut shop - the first 100 customers got free donuts for a year. Adnan (15) and David (16) were in line since 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. They believe it was worth it. Andan describes Dunkin Donuts as "caviar among donuts."

The Dutch association for the 21 major amusement parks in the country, Club van Elf, is getting closer to banning smoking in the queues outside rides. The association plans to make an announcement about it next week, AD reports.

At this stage Kees Klesman of the association does not want to say much about it. "We are working hard on it", he said to AD. "It also requires enforcement and the right information in the parks to inform people on the smoking policy. It should also all be feasible."
