The Lelystad police caught a motorist driving with two large lampposts tied to the roof of his relatively small car on Tuesday. Officers could smell alcohol on the man's breath while talking to him. He refused to cooperate in a breathalyzer test and was arrested, the Lelystad police said on Facebook.

The police responded after receiving a report of the man transporting this unusual cargo between Almere and Lelystad. Officers pulled him over on Oostvaardersdijk. What exactly the man was planning to do with the lampposts is unclear.

The Dutch police arrested two men for harassing at least eight families in very random ways. The victims were saddled with large pizza deliveries they didn't order, magazine subscriptions they never signed up for and in some cases even had sex workers and hearses showing up at their doors, AD reports.

A Leiden student received the fright of her life on Sunday morning when a stranger came into her room and crawled into bed with her. She woke up when the strange man, dressed only in his underwear, opened her door in a student house on Pelikaanhof, Sleutelstad reports.

The young woman jumped out of bed and ran to her housemates for help. Despite prods, pushes and a glass of water in the face, the seemingly drunk man would not wake up. So the young women called the police.

Afteron Friday, the Amsterdam police also had to deal with a camel in the Red Light District on Saturday. A group of men marched the camel through the famous Amsterdam neighborhood as part of a bachelor party. The camel supervisor was arrested for an outstanding fine, Het Parool reports.

A bull escaped from a slaughterhouse on Jan van Galenstraat in Amsterdam-West on Friday morning and roamed the streets of te city for around 30 minutes. The animal was finally caught by the police and a veterinarian, who lured him back into captivity using a cow, AT5 reports.

It is currently peak season at the UFO hotline in the Netherlands. Reports of UFOs increase every year when the weather warms up and skies clear in the country.

"The days are long, people are outside a lot and then you always see a peak in the number of UFO sightings", Alex Griffioen, the manager of the hotline, said to NOS. "For the vast majority of these reports there is a very simple explanation, but for 1 in 100 there's really something crazy going on."

A tired cyclist in Boekel came up with the brilliant solution to make the rest of his way home on a stolen tractor. His plan did not work out that great for him - the police caught him a short time later, with his bicycle tied onto the stolen tractor.

This all happened during the early hours of Friday morning, according to the Boekel police on Facebook. "The result is that the man with this 'genius' idea spent the night with us", the police wrote.

The tractor was returned to its owner.

Residents of Amsterdam's Deltastraat were shocked to be confronted with a coffin on their street when leaving for work this morning. The coffin was left with the garbage, along with a couch, pieces of wood and some wallpaper, AT5 reports.

The story behind the, luckily empty, coffin is unclear. It was taken away with the garbage truck around 11:15 a.m.

According to AT5, a coffin can cost anything between 300 and 2 thousand euros.

A man who robbed a pizzeria in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde on Friday night, was himself robbed by two other thieves while still in the pizzeria. The police are looking for tips about both robberies and all three robbers, AD reports.

The police initially believed that the three robbers were working together, but that now seems not to be the case.

The police arrested a 49-year-old man on the A7 between Drachten and Groningen on Tuesday afternoon for playing his saxophone behind the wheel. The man had the saxophone lying on the steering wheel. He wasn't blowing into it, but was playing the valves with his fingers, the police said, according to NU.nl.

Police officers noticed the man because of his driving behavior - he was driving at less than 90 kilometers per hour, close behind a truck and was not driving in a "flowing line", according to the police. The police therefore decided to pull him over.

Firefighters in the small Gelderland town of Wilp managed to free a small dog that trapped itself into a sewer. Flaco sprinted away from its owner when his harness snapped open during a walk on Friday, running past a dike and scampering across two meadows.

He then appeared to hide in a "safe place," a partially-submerged drain pipe where he found himself caught. The dog's owner tracked him down and tried to use treats to coax the scared animal into safety.

Someone broke into Artis Zoo in Amsterdam on Sunday night and stole 10 of 14 pelican eggs. They also broke one pelican's leg, which resulted in the animal dying, and seriously disrupted the group of birds during breeding season. The Amsterdam zoo filed charges of animal cruelty, theft and vandalism, the zoo announced on Wednesday, ANP reports.

So far no suspects were arrested. The incident was also not caught on camera.

Drugstore Kruidvat recalled a coloring book after realizing that it contained a picture of Adolf Hitler. The drugstore noticed the picture only after customers pointed it out on social media. "The book was in the store for half a day on Monday and several dozen were sold", a spokesperson for Kruidvat said to NU.nl. "We're going to figure out how this could happen."

On Saturday PVV leader Geert Wilders created a Twitter account for his cats. Whether or not this was a news worthy event caused quite a stir in Dutch Media and on social media.

Newspaper AD, like a few other newspapers, decided to write something about it and post it on the newspaper's site. Prominent VVD member and former parliament president Frans Weisglas directed a a tweet to AD editor Hans Nijenhuis, asking whether he could explain the relevance of the story. "Dear Hans Nijenhuis, can you explain the relevance of this story in your serious newspaper?" he tweeted.

A rat snake escaped form its cage on Bazuinlaan in Etten-Leur on Thursday night. The police call on residents to keep an eye out for the snake, so it can be returned home.

The snake is not venomous and completely harmless, the police assure local residents. It is about a meter long and has a distinctive orange color.

If you spot the snake, call the police.

A photo of people counting ballots at football club r.k.s.v. EMOS in Enschede while a porno can be seen on a big screen in the clubhouse, caused quite a stir. "The results here are not known yet", Thijs Fiselier tweeted with the photo. 

As a joke some footballers switched the big screen from NPO1 to a porn channel and snapped a picture. The photo shows two naked women on the massive television screen, while in the foreground two people are counting ballots, none the wiser.

Enschede man Erik van Bommel can't vote today because his dog Nio tore his voting pass into a thousand pieces last night. He reached out to the municipality, only to be told that no new voting ballots will be issued today. So he's out of luck.

Van Bommel is angry at both his dog and the municipality of Enschede. "He never takes anything off the table. And now this. And I was so eager to vote", he said to Tubantia. "But the municipality said that I should've applied for a new voting pass yesterday before noon. Isn't that weird? Shouldn't it be faster?"
