A joint police and military search for Ikram Ammari, a 1 in Utrecht since Monday, ended on Tuesday evening without the girl being found. "We are very worried. Everything is being done to find Ikram", her sister in law Imane said to RTL Nieuws. "My husband is her stepbrother and he's been in the woods all day. We do what we can."

A massive power outage in Amsterdam and surrounds on Tuesday morning may have cost the lives of two elderly Amsterdam residents, the municipality said. One may have died because the emergency line could not be reached and the other because her oxygen supply cut out when the power went out, the Telegraaf reports.

Dozens of police were joined by a military search-and-rescue unit in a concerted effort to track down Ikram Ammari, a 13-year-old girl missing from Driebergen, Utrecht since Monday. The search is centered in the heavily-wooded area between Driebergen and Zeist where some of the girl’s belongings were found.

Part of the search took place at a natural body of water in the woods, while patrols were also seen inspecting condemned commercial property and parking lots in the area, local reports said.

A 33-year-old man from Amsterdam was killed in an avalanche in Lech-Zurs, Austria on Monday, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to ANP after reports from Austrian broadcaster ORF.

The avalanche happened around 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Emergency services were at the scene within minutes, but still too late to help the Dutch an. According to Lech mayor Ludwig Muxel, the man was under a meter and a half of snow when the rescuers freed him.

An early morning power outage in parts of Noord-Holland left hundreds of thousands without electricity and failures on the Dutch rail system on Tuesday. The problem started before 4:45 a.m. causing the lights to go dark in 364,000 households across Amsterdam, Zaandam, Oostzaan and Landsmeer, Dutch utility Liander confirmed on Twitter.

The cause of the outage was not revealed. Workers successfully restored power to 164,000 households by 6:30 a.m. An hour later there were about 88,000 customers without electricity, Liander said.

Dutch lawyer and former ABN Amro Commissioner Peter Wakkie was arrested in Spain, the local police confirmed to NOS. The arrest has to do with accusations against his business partner about paying bribes to members of the Russian government through the two's company Zed+, according to the broadcaster.

Government sites DigiD and MijnOverheid.nl are currently unavailable due to a technical fault. The sites went offline just before noon, NU.nl reports.

If you try logging into DigiD you are met with a message saying that DigiD is currently unavailable due to a fault. The same message can be seen on DigiD's Twitter feed. Logging into MijnOverheid.nl is also impossible, and there are problems with logging into the sites of the Tax Authorities, DUO and benefits agency UWV.

Complaint site Allestoringen.nl received hundreds of complaints, according to NOS.

A teacher committed suicide at the Stedelijk Gymnasium in Den Bosch on Monday morning. The teacher jumped off the school building and died. A number of pupils saw the teacher jump, ANP reports.

The police would only confirm that there was a suicide at the school. The school management could not yet be reached for comment.

According to Omroep Brabant, the teacher jumped at around 9:45 a.m. as students arrived at school. Eye witnesses told the Gelderlander that the teacher jumped from the fourth floor of the building.

An 11-year-old girl died on Sunday afternoon after she sustained serious injuries in a fire in her home on Gounodstraat in Amersfoort during the early hours of that morning. The police believe arson was involved.

The fire started around 4:00 a.m. Firefighters found the girl inside the house. She was rushed to the burns center in Beverwijk, where she died of her injuries in the afternoon. The girl's older sister was also found in the home, struggling to breathe due to smoke inhalation.

A patrolling police officer was stabbed in the neck on Amsterdam's Rembrandtplein around 00:25 a.m. on Sunday, the police said in a statement. The motive for the stabbing is still very unclear, according to the police. the first witness statements indicate that there was no contact between the officer and his attacker before the stabbing.

The officer was rushed to the hospital after the stabbing. The wound in his neck was stitched up and he has since been sent home to recover.

The VVD will not team up with the PVV after the elections coming up in March, Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on television program Buitenhof on Saturday. And with that Geert Wilders and his anti-Islam populist party has no one to cooperate with after the elections - each political party has excluded working with the PVV, the Volkskrant reports. 

Rutte said that the "probability is not 0.1, but zero that the VVD will govern with the PVV", on Buitenhof. "It's not going to happen." Previously the PvdA, CDA, D66, GroenLinks and SP already closed the door on working with the PVV.

The winter weather conditions are causing trouble for passengers. Schiphol airports expects flight delays due to strong winds. And train traffic in the Netherlands already encountered several problems due to snow and icy tracks. 

"Due to strong winds, flights from/to Schiphol might be delayed. Check your airline for flight information", Schipphol wrote on Twitter.

Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow weather warning of icy, slick roads caused by the snowfall overnight. All provinces except the coastal ones are affected.

Motorists are warned that to adjust their driving behavior - slow down and keep a safe following distance. Keep a close eye on weather and traffic reports. The slickness should dissipate during the course of the morning. The southeast and eastern parts of the country will experience it the longest.

Snow, storms and heavy winds are heading towards the Netherlands tonight and tomorrow, Weeronline predicts. Some inland areas including the Veluwe, the Sallandse Heuvelrug, the Limgburg Heuvels, Twente and Achterhoek may even get 5 to 10 centimeters of snow tonight.

The KNMI issued a code yellow weather warning for all provinces except the coastal ones. The meteorological institute warns that snow could cause icy, slick roads. "All traffic participants can experience hindrance. Adjust your driving behavior. Follow weather reports and warnings", the institute warns.

RTL Nieuws managed to break into the social media accounts of various politicians by using previously leaked passwords. With some of them, including the Twitter account of SGP leader Kees van der Staaij, the journalists left a message to show that they were there.

"This account has been leaked and is therefore vulnerable to hackers. Signed Daniel Verlaan and Siebe Sietsma of RTL Nieuws", a tweet read on Van der Staaij's account. The tweet has since been removed. They also broke into CDA Pieter Omtzigt's LinedIn account and various other unnamed politicians' Facebook accounts.

Two men suspected of involvement in the kidnapping of 2-year-old from Amsterdam in September last year, are in court on Thursday. Their lawyers claim that 47-year-old Robert B. and 59-year-old Frederick S. were only trying to help a distraught father get his daughter back, according to reporter Victor Schildkamp tweeting live from the courtroom.
