A group of 80 Ajax supporters were fined by the local police in Warsaw on Thursday afternoon, prior to the Europa League match between Ajax and Legia Warsaw on Thursday evening. The Warsaw police were on high alert after about 50 masked men attacked some Ajax supporters in a bar in the city during the early hours of Thursday morning, AT5 reports.
Parents are refusing to let their kids play football on the ASV Arsenal fields due to renewed concerns that the rubber granules used in artificial turf may be toxic. In the mean time, the ASV Arsenal team is training in the Vondelpark, AT5 reports.
Brabant football club VV Bladella in Bladel expelled four boys from the club because they did not sell enough raffle tickets. The parents of at least three of the boys are furious. And football association KNVB "urged the club to reverse the measure", but Bladella does not intend to make an exception, AD reports.
Two videos were posted on YouTube showing the aftermath of a group of Ajax fans being attacked by Legia Warsaw supporters in a bar in Warsaw, Poland. The Amsterdam club is playing against the Warsaw club in the Europa League on Thursday.
According to the Telegraaf, a group of 50 Ajax fans were in a bar called Chmury today when it was suddenly stormed by about 50 masked Legia Warsaw supporters. They first threw stones at the bar and then forced their way in. Once inside they threw tables and chairs. Surprisingly, no one was injured.
Rubber granules used in artificial turf may have detrimental health effects after all, according to a study by the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam which will be presented on Zembla on Wednesday. National health institute RIVM stresses that it is too early to draw conclusions from the study, ANP reports.
Managers of sports clubs should be legally required to report any signs of sexual abuse to a national body, two Dutch professors said to the Volkskrant. If they fail to do so, they should be subject to disciplinary proceedings, according to the professors.
Professors Marjan Olfers and Peter Vogelzang of the Institute for Sports Law believe that the only way to effectively address sexual abuse in sports clubs, is to make sure that perpetrators are registered centrally and shared with other clubs. This should be coupled with a Safety Board for Sports.
Dutch skater Jan Smeekens won the gold medal in the World Championships Single Distance 500 meters at the Gangneung Olympic track on Friday. He is the first Dutch ever to win gold for 500 meters, NU.nl reports.
Smeekens finished with a time of 34.58, winning his gold medal. Nico Ihle (Germany) took silver with 34.66 and Ruslan Murashov (Russia) took bronze with 34.76.
The 500 meters Single Distance was first raced in 1996. Since then the gold medal went to Japan seven times, South Korea five times, Canada three times, Russia twice and now once to the Netherlands.

Four supporters of Tilburg football club Willem II were sentenced to community service and up to three months in prison by the court in Breda on Monday. They were found guilty of assaulting two Feyenoord supporters during a match between the two clubs on October 2nd last year. During the match in Tilburg, one of the Feyenoord fans was thrown over the stadium railings, NU.nl reports.
Skater Sven Kramer took the European all-round title on Sunday. This is the ninth individual victory for the three-time Olympic champion this winter, NU.nl reports.

Dutch man Michael van Gerwen won the World Championships for darts in London on Sunday night. For the cup he beat Gary Anderson 7-3. "I've been fighting for this the whole year", a tearfully happy Van Gerwen said to Omroep Brabant.
In advance a massively difficult battle was expected. Van Gerwen and Anderson are both giants in the darts world. But according to the broadcaster, Van Gerwen quickly took the lead. "It was a fairly easy victory for Micheal van Gerwen on Gary Andrson." reporter Joost van Erp said to the broadcaster. "Van Gerwen was the better player and rightly won."
ADO Den Haag will have to wait until next year to find out whether the court will order the football team's Chinese owner Hui Wang to pay up over 2.3 million euros. On Wednesday the court in The Hague decided that it will make its ruling on the lawsuit ADO Den Haag filed against Wang on January 5th, NU.nl reports.
The lawyers of United Vansen, Wang's company, did not show up for the hearing on Wednesday. The hearing took only 6 minutes.
Family members of El-Hasan D. from Amsterdam, who was convicted for involvement in the death of football linesman Richard Nieuwenhuizen in 2012, launched a fundraising campaign to help D. raise the money for the compensation he has to pay to his victim's family. Last year Dutch sports federation NOC*NSF received 215 reports of sexual abuse from athletes. "Every case of sexual abuse is one too many", Minister Edith Schippers of Sports said about the figure, RTL Nieuws reports.
Athletes can report any form of unacceptable behavior, such as abuse of power, doping, bribery and sexual abuse, at the NOC*NSF contact point. Last year there were 269 reports, 80 percent of which involved sexual abuse.
Sports federation NOC*NSF wants to launch a major investigation into sexual abuse in the sports world that will focus on the past 30 years, the Volkskrant reported on Friday. The aim is to find out whether there are abuse victims in the Netherlands that never came forward.
"It is important for sports to be familiar with its own history", NOC*NSF CEO Gerard Dielessen said to the Volkskrant. According to him, sexual abuse victims carry a massive burden. He believes this investigation can support abused athletes who want to come forward with their story.
Athletic events played on artificial turf mixed with rubber granules in the Netherlands does not significantly increase exposure to carcinogenic chemicals, states an unreleased report by Dutch health authority RIVM, according to the Telegraaf. Still, the agency recommends a wider scale international study of the rubber granules, often made by recycling automotive tires, as regulations governing the practice are inconsistent from country to country.
A top business investor lost control over the shares his company owns in Dutch football team ADO Den Haag in a key ruling issued Monday by the court at the Commercial Division of the Amsterdam courthouse. Chinese investor Hui Wang was suspended from his position as the head of the team’s Supervisory Board, the court determined today.
Kyocera is dropping out as sponsor for ADO Den Haag early next year, was revealed in court in Amsterdam on Thursday in a lawsuit filed by ADO Den Haag against it's main shareholder United Vansen and its owner Hui Wang, ANP reports.
Dutch football association KNVB also relegated ADO Den Haag to the worrisome category 1, which means that the club is now under the guardianship of the association.
The police arrested seven men for brawling prior to a football match between PEC Zwolle and FC Utrecht in Zwolle on Wednesday. The police believe that all arrested suspects are supporters of one of the two football teams, De Stentor reports.
The police responded to reports of a brawl on Rhijvis Feithlaan, at the height of Banginesingel on Wednesday afternoon. Several officers were already on site preparing for the football match. They were therefore able to stop the brawl soon after it began.
The management of the Amsterdam ArenA and the family of Johan Cruijff are nearing an agreement on naming the stadium after the football legend. According to newspaper AD, there is only one obstacle that needs to be cleared.
The obstacle in the way of the agreement is that the Cruijff family would prefer that the stadium does not also carry the name of a sponsor. They do not want Johan Cruijff's name and memory to be connected with a random company.
