A helicopter pilot was taken to a police station for questioning after he caused a panic at the Retropop music festival on Saturday night with a nose diving stunt. The organizers of the festival called the stunt an "individual and rash action", RTL Nieuws reports.

Festival attendees were watching a performance by Di-rect and Lucas Hamming when the low flying helicopter suddenly started a nose dive right above their heads. The pilot pulled up before reaching the ground and people below, and no one was injured. But many did get quite a fright.

Sinterklaas' national arrival will be in the Friesland city of Dokkum this year. The saint and his entourage is scheduled to arrive on Saturday, November 18th, RTL Nieuws reports.

Dokkum falls under the municipality of Dongeradeel. Mayor Marga Waanders is delighted that Sinterklaas chose Dokkum for his arrival. "Fantastic news for Dokkum and the region Noordoost  Fryslân", she said to the broadcaster. "We will warmly welcome Sinterklaas!"

As usual NTR will follow Sinterklaas and his arrival on the Sinterklaasjournaal with presenter Dieuwertje Blok.

Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder paid tribute to his recently deceased friend Chris Cornell during a solo show in Amsterdam on Saturday. Cornell, best known as frontman for band Soundgarden, hanged himself in a hotel room in Detroit on Wednesday, NY Daily News reports. 

While Vedder didn't mention Cornell by name, it was clear that the 52-year-old grunge singer was on his mind.

A video published online on Monday shows 30 Amsterdam residents, well known and unknown alike, promising Mayor Eberhard van der Laan that they will look after the city in their own way. The video was made by documentary researcher Ferm Verbeek, production house Wefilm, director Claudio de Oliveira Marques and concept developer Ruben Cussel, Het Parool reports.

A performance by Job Jobse and Dixon in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam was cut short during the early hours of Friday morning due to problems with the building's ceiling. The performance was shut down at 1:00 a.m., two hours before the seven hour long party was set to end, Het Parool reports.

The Uganda Media Council banned the screening of Dutch film De Eetclub at the Euro-Uganda Film Festival and anywhere else in the country because it "glorifies homosexuality", and features scenes of smoking, drinking and sexual intercourse. American author Kristin Anderson has been based in the Netherlands for over five years now, and has used the time to become a full-fledged novelist. Her second book, The Things We Said in Venice, is a travelogue that takes its two main characters on an on-again-off-again romance across Europe and ultimately to the Netherlands. Essentially written as a much-needed vacation to the eco-thriller she previously worked on, she based the characters on a subject of a Huffington Post article and a travel photographer/blogger.

The OG3NE sisters  Lisa, Shelly and Amy are somewhat disappointed that they placed 11th in the Eurovision Song Contest. "We did our best and hope that we made the Netherlands proud", Lisa said to AD after the on Saturday. "But we did expect a higher position." The three Dutch women were met by cheering fans when they landed on Schiphol airport on Sunday afternoon.

A total of 1.5 million Dutch watched the first semi finals of the Eurovision Song Contest on NPO 1 on Tuesday night, according to figures from Stichting KijkOnderzoek, BuzzE reports.

Before the Eurovision Song Contest, NPO broadcast Op weg naar het Songfestival, in which Dutch celebrities speculated on the prospects of the semi-finalists. That drew nearly 1.3 million viewers. Only the NOS Journaal van 20.00 scored better with 2 million viewers.

Dutch director Paul Verhoeven plans to make another movie in France next year. The working tile for the film is Blessed Virgin and it is about the life of a lesbian nun who lived in the Renaissance, AD reports.

The film is based on the book Immodest Acts by Judit C. Brown. It is about nun Benedetta Carlini who lived in a monastery in Italy in the Renaissance. The book is based on investigations in Florence's archives. Belgian actress Virginie Efira is rumored for the leading role.

Foreign tourists are increasingly joining King's Day celebrations in Amsterdam, according to online travel agency Expedia. Compared to last year, significantly more foreign tourists, specifically Italians, Brits and Americans, booked hotels in the Dutch capital around King Willem-Alexander's birthday on April 27th, BNR reports.

The number of Italians in Amsterdam on King's day almost doubled compared to last year. The number of American tourists increased by 25 percent.

King Willem-Alexander was spotted walking the streets of The Hague on Thursday afternoon. He was on his way to Palace Noordeinde by car when a bus broke down and blocked the road. Not wanting to be late for his appointment - a staff reception at the palace in honor of his upcoming 50th birthday - the Dutch King completed the journey by foot, ANP reports.

The reception at the palace for the staff is a tradition around the King's birthday. It also kicks off a week of celebrations for King Willem-Alexander, who turns 50 on April 27th.

Traffic information service ANWB expects heavy traffic on Dutch roads on Friday afternoon as the May school holidays begin for primary and secondary schools across the country, AD reports.

The ANWB expects that most people who are vacationing in the Netherlands will leave for their destinations today. Roads to recreation areas in the middle and south of the Netherlands are expected to be especially busy. "Traffic jams are most likely on the highways around Amersfoort (A1, A28), the A12 from Utrecht to Arnhem and the roads to the Holland- and Zeeland coast", ANWB warns.
