Fire rips through Honselersdijk auto garage as smoke warning issued
A large fire broke out overnight in an auto repair shop on Grote Waard in Honselersdijk, prompting authorities to warn nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed because of heavy smoke, Omroep West reports.
The blaze was reported around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the regional safety authority. Firefighters quickly upgraded the response to a “large fire,” deploying three fire engines to contain the flames and prevent the blaze from spreading.
No injuries were reported, officials said. Thick clouds of smoke drifted across the area during the firefight. Residents in the immediate vicinity were urged to stay indoors and close ventilation to avoid exposure to smoke.
A drone was used to locate remaining hotspots inside the building, the fire department said. Some sections of the structure were demolished to fully extinguish the flames.
By around 7 a.m., firefighters confirmed the fire was under control. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
